187 Pooled Waiting Lists for Primary Hip and Knee Arthroplasty: Are the Outcomes Inferior to a Named Consultant List?

Abstract Aim A pooled waiting list model is where patients are treated in turn by the first available surgeon and works to use existing resources more efficiently better match demand. compare quantitative data of on named-consultant’ determine superiority either based favourable outcomes. Method This single centre, retrospective study compared outcomes primary elective hip knee arthroplasty for osteoarthritis from ‘named-consultant’ lists over a 1-year period. The period was before corona virus pandemic. 371 total replacements (TKR) 373 (THR) were included. Baseline characteristics between named-consultant lists. Results In TKR group, significantly higher proportion older with BMI ASA grade (p = 0.027, p 0.479, p<0.001 respectively). There no difference baseline THR cohort. Waiting time surgery less group (mean 4.17months) significant mortality, revision infection rates, length stay, operative blood loss, DVT/PE rate, requiring pain team referral number unsatisfactory range motion at follow-up. any two groups Conclusions Pooled can therefore be an excellent tool THR/TKR utilize all (surgeons theatre time) without compromising patient prompting UK centres.
